MEDEVAL July 2023 - Romania

Pursuing interoperability by engaging all stakeholders in a practical evaluation is a keystone for closer operational relationship between the Alliance and potential contributors to NATO-led operations, by supporting Partners to develop forces that are fully interoperable and capable of operating with NATO standards and procedures.

In this light, the NATO Medical Evaluation course (MEDEVAL) is a must to:

  • Get familiarized with capability based modular approach of multinational medical support to NATO operations.
  • Gain knowledge of medical evaluation process within the framework of validation and certification.
  • Be able to evaluate medical modules as an evaluation team leader/member.

After familiarizing with the related medical doctrine hierarchy and specifically the NATO Medical Evaluation doctrine, participants conducted an evaluation in an emergency department and evaluated three modules in total. As a result from these observations, a first impression report was made by the teams that was presented to the Unit Commander and NATO MILMED COE MEDEVAL instructors team. The students could provide meaningful insights focused on risk mitigation which is the best value for evaluation.
