MULTINATIONAL MEDICAL APPROACH IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS
As a critical force enabler, medical capabilities significantly contribute to the overall success of coalition operations. A wide portfolio of potential NATO operations might require a shift from expeditionary operations into the reinforcing of a collective security responsibility, which has got significant implications for medical support capability development. The Medical Modular Approach (MMA) is an innovative concept for a flexible, mission tailored, and modular configuration of Medical Assets, Medical Treatment Facilities and Units based on pooling and sharing of standardized capability modules which can be rearranged, replaced, combined and
and interchanged according to operational requirements.
MCDC MMA Emp is a 2-year cycle project, currently led by the Czech Republic. The project´s aim is to provide a conceptual basis for further development of modular, interoperable medical capabilities and to enable a flexible, agile, and mission tailored configuration and enhancement of an end to end multinational medical support system.
The last two decades´ experiences got from NATO/EU and UN operations and missions have proven, that the multinational approach is the key to success in providing medical support, including scarce highly specialized medical care. Therefore, the MCDC MMA Emp project is primarily focused on the development of a Guidance for the most effective way to design/build-up Multinational Medical Treatment Facilities or other Medical Units composed of modular contributions from Troop Contributing Nations, Civil Organizations and/or commercial contractors. As part of this project, several CD&E activities will be conducted in order to ensure that the MCDC MMA Emp concept is valid and credible.
