On April 25, 2024, Semmelweis University and the NATO MILMED COE signed a cooperation agreement primarily aimed at organizing joint training sessions and events, as well as developing healthcare simulation programs.
According to the agreement, the two organizations will mutually support each other’s training sessions and events, including the exchange of participants and speakers, providing venues, and assist in the development of healthcare simulation solutions, especially in the area of medical education.
Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University, emphasized in his speech: “Semmelweis University is the country's best university, its largest healthcare provider, and a European-level knowledge centre. True to our institution’s significance, we always strive to lead as a flagship. This is furthered by our current agreement with the NATO Centre of Excellence for Military Medicine, which I am confident will prove beneficial not only for the signing parties: the experiences gained through this cooperation will ultimately be utilized on the battlefield or beside the hospital beds.”
COL Dr. László Fazekas, Director of NATO MILMED COE, highlighted that the collaboration facilitates the integration of specialized medical knowledge acquired by military doctors on the battlefield, thereby ensuring that the primary peacetime task of soldiers – the preparation – is conducted within an appropriate framework.
The Semmelweis University is an important partner of the MILMED COE, having already accredited the training programs of the Centre. This further cooperation creates a synergy in which Semmelweis University provides a world-class clinical backdrop for the COE’s training sessions and events, as well as for NATO military medical professionals.
